Spelt is an ancient species of wheat and has high water solubility, which means that the nutrients within it are absorbed effectively by the body. This wholemeal variation of Spelt flour is made from the whole grain and is great for recipes where a gentler, more delicate outcome is sought in baked goods. This makes it suitable for pastries, cakes and biscuits, while still being able to replace white wheat or grain flour in most recipes. Tasty, slightly sweet with hints of nut, wholemeal Spelt flour is free of preservatives, is completely non-GMO and certifiably organic.
When baking with organic Spelt flour, you will need to add a separate raising agent such as yeast, baking powder or soda in order for the recipes to rise.
